Hosted within the School of Forestry, Environmental and Geographical Sciences, the research team is investigating the role of regulatory models in universal electricity access. The research focusses on assessing the status and trends in off-grid access in Uganda and the potential for use of digital energy regulatory model to enable rapid and affordable access to off-grid electricity. The research team is at the centre of execution of this project including:

  • Undertaking the background research on the current off-grid status in Uganda and the effects of the available policy and regulatory environment on the inclusion of off-grid penetration and sustainability
  • Lead the development of an alternative digital regulatory model to serve as basis for the EMAP development.
  • Support development of protocols and tools to facilitate the operationalisation of EMAP
  • Supporting MEMD in marketing, awareness, enrolment, and other activities that will enhance the use of EMAP
